What is the difference between active duty and reserve service?

Active duty is full-time service for a specified enlistment period. Reserve service is part-time, two days per month and two weeks per year with the possibility of activation to active duty during times of national need.

What is the Coast Guard Academy?

The Coast Guard Academy is a military service academy and accredited college located in New London, Connecticut. Graduates of the Academy receive a Bachelor of Science degree and commission as an ensign. The Academy is highly selective and tuition free. Graduates are obligated to serve for five years after graduation.
