Do Prison inmates work?

Federal Prison inmates and some State Prison inmates are required to work unless they have a medical restriction. Inmates who are participating in educational or treatment programs, or inmates who are considered a security risk, may receive an exemption from work requirements.

How can victims of a crime learn when an inmate is being released?

Most states have a Victim Services Unit or similar agency that can provide information on the release of inmates. In some cases, a petitioner may also be notified of parole hearings.

What is Good Conduct Time?

Good Conduct Time refers to time that can be deducted from an inmate's sentence as a result of good behavior. Though the actual formula for calculating Good Conduct Time is complex, a commonly used rule of thumb is that a year of good behavior can reduce a sentence by roughly 54 days.
