What are the requirements for becoming a Deputy Marshal?

Applicants who wish to become Deputy Marshals must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 21 and 36. Basic requirements include being in good physical condition and having a Bachelor's degree and some work experience. Applicants must pass a written test and successfully complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center academy.

How long is a term for a U.S. Marshal?

U.S. Marshals are appointed to a four-year term by the President. If a vacancy occurs in the position during the term, the Attorney General appoints a temporary replacement until the President can make a final replacement.

Do witnesses in the Witness Protection Program get paid?

The program provides temporary financial assistance for housing, basic living expenses, and medical care, usually for a period of no more than six months. On average, participants receive about $60,000 in living assistance. Job training and employment assistance may also be provided.
