Is financial assistance available for childcare services?

Depending on the state and locality, various programs are often available to assist families in paying for childcare services. Eligibility for these programs is often income-based. In some cases, childcare may be guaranteed if the parent is meeting job participation or job training requirements as part of a public assistance program.

What is adult abuse?

Adult abuse is mistreatment, neglect, or financial exploitation of an adult who has a physical or mental impairment that makes them vulnerable. Child, Youth, and Family Services may intervene in situations of adult abuse by providing mental and physical assessments, securing alternative living arrangements, and coordinating with law enforcement.

What is the process for becoming a foster parent or foster family?

The process for becoming a foster parent or foster family can be lengthy and complicated. Multiple background checks are required, including FBI and state police criminal background checks and clearance through the state registry for child abuse and neglect. A home study must be completed, interviews of household members conducted and multiple references checked. Foster parents are also required to participate in training prior to fostering and on an ongoing basis.
