What is a College?

Colleges and universities provide post-secondary and higher education degree programs, including associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, doctorate degrees, and trade certifications. Some colleges focus on liberal arts, while others focus on the sciences or vocational trades. Colleges and universities provide communities with a variety of jobs, from administrative and educational positions to custodial, food service and security positions.

As well as education, colleges provide entertainment venues for sporting events, fine arts shows, and performing arts. They help students with enrollment, college applications, and financial aid. They also provide alumni services, career placement services, financial aid in the form of work study, housing so students can live on campus. Most also offer medical services, and some also provide transportation. Some four-year colleges and universities are as large as small cities.
