About Public Schools

How are Public Schools funded?

Public Schools are publicly funded, largely through taxes. Most funding comes from state, county and local sources, with the federal government providing a relatively small share of Public School funding. What is "school choice"?

Traditional Public Schools typically assign students to schools based on their residency. School choice refers to programs that enable students to attend a school other than the Public School they would have otherwise been assigned. School choice programs include voucher programs, open enrollment in other school districts, Charter Schools, Magnet Schools, and home schooling.

What are Vocational-Technical Schools?

Vocational-Technical, or Vo-Tech, Schools are schools that provide training in trades or technical fields, usually on a part-time basis, to students. While part of the school-day or week is spent in Vo-Tech coursework, the traditional portion of the curriculum is provided by the student's home school district. Most Vo-Tech Schools are for students in high school grades.
