About WIC Offices

What is "nutrition risk"?

An individual at nutrition risk has been determined by a health or nutrition professional to have a medical-based or nutrition-based condition such as having anemia, being underweight, or having a poor diet. An assessment for nutrition risk includes height and weight measurements as well as blood work.

Do all retailers accept WIC as payment?

No. Retailers must be authorized as WIC vendors by their state. An open enrollment period takes place each year for WIC vendors. Authorized WIC vendors must maintain certain items in inventory and meet other requirements in order to participate in the program.

What foods are eligible for purchase using WIC benefits?

Eligible foods include many dairy products, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, cereals, breads, and whole grains. Frozen and canned fruits and vegetables may be eligible provided they do not contain added sugars, sweeteners, fats, or oils.
