Most states do not require the accreditation of Private Schools. Some states give Private Schools the option of either being accredited or receiving some type of approval or license from the state. Most Private Schools are non-profit organizations. This allows Private Schools to accept contributions that can be treated as tax-deductible. However, there are some Private Schools that operate as for-profit businesses. The for-profit structure of a Private School affords owners greater control over the school than would be the case with a non-profit.
