Emergency services are first-response services that help people during natural disasters, accidents, and other public emergencies which may be a threat to life or property. They work to safeguard the health and safety of citizens. Emergency services are based on a four-pronged approach of prevention, readiness, response, and recovery. Emergency service response teams are highly-skilled personnel who undergo rigorous training in order to do their jobs effectively. These services are classified into three major groups: police and law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical services (EMS).
Apart from the three main types emergency services, there are special military, coastguard, mountain rescue, mine rescue, cave rescue, wildfire response, bomb disposal, disaster relief, flood relief, and famine relief teams.
