Most states do not require the accreditation of Private Schools. Some states give Private Schools the option of either being accredited or receiving some type of approval or license from the state. Charter Schools are privately run but publicly funded. A Charter School has a charter or agreement with the state or sponsoring school board that allows it to operate with some degree of autonomy.
