What are Veterans?

A veteran is anyone who has previously served in the armed forces. After separating or retiring from military service, veterans usually have certain benefits, including access to health care and educational programs. Veterans who have become disabled as a result of their military service may be eligible for health care benefits and disability pensions.

In fact, a variety of service-related conditions has been identified, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), exposure to Agent Orange (a toxic pesticide used during the Vietnam War) as well as hearing loss and long-term brain injuries from ordnance explosions. Each of these conditions may entitle affected veterans to additional benefits and services. Beyond health care, disability, retirement and education benefits, veterans are also entitled to receive burial benefits.
